Fiber, Fitness, and Fellowship (FX3). This Workshop combines fiber art, physical activity, and social connection to make a positive impact on the community.
Each section of this program is described below and it can be tailored to different ages and abilities.
Phase 1 Fiber - Artistic Project:
In this hands-on, creative project, participants will be educated about the world of Fiber Art. One of our focuses will be on the timeless Square Knot that we use in the design and patterning of our Woven Weights and Cross-Body Bag. Individuals will weave cords, yarn, fabric strips, and other natural and synthetic fibers together, creating their own distinctive artworks. This form of Fiber Art supports our goal for brain-body connection, hand-eye coordination, and overall cognitive health.
Phase 2 Fitness - Workout Sessions:
In the next phase of our FX3 project, students are invited to experience our SACCO Woven Weights, which are created in the same fashion as their works of art from Phase 1. We introduce the students to our innovative SACCO Movement Method that draws inspiration from a fusion of dance, fitness, and organic movements. Participants can experience the joy of movement using this beautiful and safe lightweight.
Phase 3 Fellowship - Social Time and Sharing:
After the artistic sessions and workouts, participants convene in a circle for fellowship and storytelling. Here, they are invited to introduce themselves through improvised, invented, and expressive movement incorporating their fiber artwork.
Essentially, we take an art journey by making a fiber art creation. Then, we use the whole body to workout with functional fiber art props, expressive music, and joyful movement. Finally, we reflect, share, and retell our experiences.
